What is baptism?

Baptism is a faith event where a believer decides to turn from their sin and follow Jesus. The Bible teaches that the way we put our faith in Jesus is to repent and be baptized.

frequently asked questions

Why Should I Be Baptized?

A simple reason we should be baptized is to follow the example of Jesus. (Mark 1:9-11) Jesus also commanded that his followers are to be baptized. (Matthew 28:19) Baptism is the pattern set by the early Church. (Acts 2:38, 8:35-38)

What Is The Meaning Of Baptism?

Baptism is an illustration of the gospel and a celebration of the grace of Jesus. As we go down into the water we are dying to our old self and as we come up out of the water we are united with Jesus in the power of his resurrection, and we experience rebirth. (Romans 6:3-4)

Why Be Baptized By Immersion?

At Capital City we baptize by immersion because we want to be a Church that does biblical things in biblical ways. In the language that the Bible was originally written in, the word for "baptize" literally means "to dip" or "immerse", and baptisms in the Bible were done by immersion. Also immersion best symbolizes a burial and resurrection. (Colossians 2:12)

Who Should Be Baptized?

Everyone who decides to follow Jesus should be baptized.

What About Children?

We love to see children come to faith in Jesus and make decisions for Christ. Take a look at this document to determine if your child is ready for baptism.

What About Infant Baptism?

Infants and newborns are precious and innocent, and do not have the need or the ability to repent and turn from their sin. That is why we wait until a child has the need and ability to repent and follow Jesus before we baptize them. If you have not experienced believer's baptism, even though you may have experienced sprinkling as an infant, we strongly encourage you to be "re-baptized" as a repentant believer.

When Should I Be baptized?

The Bible teaches that baptism is a part of the decision to follow Jesus, so as soon as you believe that Jesus is your savior, you should be baptized (Acts 8:12).
